My family grew up next to Onaero beach where my older sister and I enjoyed a childhood full of beloved family pets. We owned horses, cats, pigs rabbits, birds and most importantly dogs! Over the years our family owned a Rough Coat Collie named Lucky, a Black Labrador named Biko and now a rescued Hunterway/Rottweiler named Achmid who have all lived long and happy lives.
My family dogs were always there for me when I needed them... I find thats what sets dogs apart from other animals is that they truly have nothing but love to give. My family made sure we gave back that love by becoming involved with fostering rescue dogs, which is something we still continue to help with where we can today.
I had always dreamed of working with animals, my sister became a vet nurse and an absolutely brilliant dog trainer in her spare time. Watching my sister get involved with agility and obedience with her Staffy Dante (and more recently her new addition Nym) really sparked my interest in dog behavior and training. After working basic jobs for a few years, I found a job with Animates New Plymouth which helped me put my foot in the door to the animal industry. I gained so much knowledge through Animates, meeting some fantastic people & their dogs. It was there that I met Sarah, and I was always so inspired by her passion & knowledge of dogs. I always thought working at The Hounds Hangout would be the best job in the world, but never thought I would be so lucky.
After three years at Animates I applied and got a job at The Hounds Hangout, and it truly was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. The knowledge I have gained about dog behavior has been so eye opening, watching how the packs interact with each other never fails to teach me something new. Each and every dog brings something special to the daycare, so it's always exciting when a new one walks through the door! Making sure the dogs have and awesome time at daycare is my passion, I wake up every day excited to go to work and ready to hang out with my canine friends!
